Said legions of men (and some women) busily pretending not to see a middle-aged man constantly surrounded by girls and young women

A recent article in the New York Times began with this sentence:

When Jeffrey Epstein said “massage” in the years after he got out of jail in 2009, what did his friends and associates think he meant?

In 2005, when the police in Florida opened an investigation into Epstein’s foray into prostitution, he claimed he didn’t know that one girl was only 14 years old. Sorry, dude, but even the most mature looking 14-year-old does not look legal to anyone who cares to actually look.

By 2007, he had violated so many young girls that really, law enforcement had to do something, so they stitched together a deal that included a “non-prosecution agreement” that was little more than a light tap to the back of his hand. His victims were not informed that their cases would go nowhere further.

The following year Epstein pleaded guilty to state charges of solicitation of prostitution including with a minor under the age of 18 and was sentenced to 18 months in a minimum security facility, but was allowed work release for 12 hours a day and he was released after serving less than 13 months.

He avoided numerous legal cases by paying off his victims.

It is not necessary for me to give a detailed list of Epstein’s crimes, both proved and unproved, because what I am really interested in is his influence, not his actions. Considering the multitudes of (mainly) men who are now frantically wishing they could rent a time machine and undo all of Epstein’s hospitality that they had so enjoyed, it is obvious that, in addition to possessing charm to burn, Epstein was an epically influential man.

How did a man who was a registered sex offender in both New York and Florida manage to ignore penalties that would be career-ending for lesser mortals and just carry on his licentious lifestyle, while at the same time continuing to embroil other men in his abusive behavior? Even those who didn’t personally indulge themselves with Epstein’s “girls” must have seen the red flags frantically waving in the cyclonic conditions that he created. Why was “willful inaction” deemed to the best course of action by men who knew better?

Social psychology defines an in-group as a social group to which an individual feels they belong (or wants to belong). Identifying with, and feeling a sense of loyalty and emotional attachment to other group members is a vital component. Referring to “us” and building a shared identity based on common beliefs, characteristics, or experiences is pivotal.

It’s not like Epstein didn’t have tangible gifts to dangle in front of his invitees; financial opportunities, social connections, soft power dealings and the gatherings in luxurious surroundings were all designed to seduce others and astonish people who already had more spectacular privileges than most.

Want more power? Start breaking the rules

In 2012, the results of a Dutch study were published that demonstrated how rule breakers amass power. This study found that rule breakers got more power if they shared the spoils of their transgressions with those around them, rather than hoarding them for themselves. In one of their experiments, they found that someone who stole another’s coffee thermos and shared it, earned more power than someone who stole the coffee and drank it all themselves.

So, if the rule breaking benefits others, the rule breaker gains status with the group.

Epstein was a man who had opinions on everything and put forward some controversial views, such as suggesting that the elderly should be euthanized and musing that climate change could be the answer to overpopulation. And then there was his ever present misogyny, which could be seen in his constant comments on women’s looks and incessantly rating them and their body parts for attractiveness. His guests were aware that they too were being rated, so avoided doing anything to get them kicked off Jeffrey’s Christmas card list.

Shush, we need to pretend that there’s nothing to see here

Part of the glue that held Epstein’s orbit circling for so long was secrecy, which he enforced by withdrawing favors from those who didn’t respect this sufficiently. He chastised women who left sex toys out in full view and men who presumed they had the ability to invite their friends over, without a personal invitation from Epstein himself.

Shared secrets are an important component in maintaining that in-group feeling because they enhance an insiders’ sense of being chosen. Paradoxically, shared secrets make them harder to hide, but much easier to live with.

It is amazingly easy to find yourself complicit in the harm of others, bolstered by collective silence by focusing on the day-to-day details such as who is arriving when and who else will be there. Quite a few academics appeared to be easily bought with money for their pet projects that their universities wouldn’t fund and who is going say, ‘no, I’ll go coach’ when the alternative is to fly on a privately owned Boeing 737? And when you get to that privately owned island and find yourself in amongst the leading Lotharios of the era, do you really want to do anything (such as point out the abuse of women) that will get you permanently dis-invited from future events?

These men did not think of themselves as sex traffickers, but by ignoring the circumstances of an ever-available stream of young, beautiful women who were there for the express purpose of serving them, they were at the very least complicit in the abuse.

Epstein as a trans influencer

Everybody knew about Epstein and his “girls”, but fewer knew about his interest in “transgender biology” which he promoted through commissioning and financing research and funding.

This report presents a comprehensive overview of Epstein’s interest in funding those practitioners working in the Dark Arts of “gender affirming care”, including with Dr. Jess Ting, a plastic surgeon who became the first head of a new program at a prestigious hospital when he created America’s first comprehensive academic transgender surgery program at Mount Sinai.

Less than two months after this major career pivot, Ting emailed Epstein to let him know that he had “given up” plastic surgery to devote all his work time to do transgender surgeries, (which means he lied because all “gender affirming surgeries” are no more than plastic surgeries on steroids). Epstein was paying attention because he emailed one of his networks who just happened to be then director of the MIT Media Lab. He wanted this person to pitch the trans cause to Bill Gates, well known for his funding of science. Epstein’s email read:

I would tell gates if i were you, that one science is the most exciting. forget transgender its transcience... but cutting edge. brain stimulation, plant and human interaction. mathematics that can deal with millions of inputs. biology, vs few inputs physics needs to be developed. I told him he would have FUN at the theory level, instead of being under melindas thumb (fat thumb)

What Epstein is trying to accomplish is influencing the world’s richest philanthropist to not just hop on board the gender woo express, but to expand this into transhumanism as the way forward. This is considering a transgender identity as a legitimate science-funding category, which he is now pushing by connecting the institutional channels that already existed between MIT and the Gates Foundation.

It’s not just the occupant of the Oval Office at the White House who wishes that the Epstein nightmare would end, even the gender woo centurions at WPATH are busily trying to remove any traces of Epstein from their mission, which is a bit tricky as one of their shining stars is Dr. Ting who got a $50,000 grant for his work just before he announced his new calling and his new transgender surgery and teaching enterprise at Mount Sinai received at least another $250,000 for its work. It needs to be noted that Jeffrey was a transactional man who expected to get what he paid for and Ting certainly delivered. But as WPATH’s “find a provider” search was recently disabled, you won’t discover Ting’s name if you want your penis snipped off or your healthy breasts removed.

According to (mainly) obscenely wealthy white dudes, the way forward is transhumanism

Like many other men who work to gain and wield power, Epstein became fascinated by eugenics, which can be described as the selective breeding of humans. I mean this is what livestock, racehorse and companion animal breeders have done for a very long time, so why not apply the same principles to our fellow (wo)men?

Also, in tandem with other powerful, white, obscenely wealthy men, Epstein believed that his own ‘superior’ genes would improve the population no end and according to this source (one of many):

On multiple occasions starting in the early 2000s, Mr. Epstein told scientists and businessmen about his ambitions to use his New Mexico ranch as a base where women would be inseminated with his sperm and would give birth to his babies, according to two award-winning scientists and an adviser to large companies and wealthy individuals, all of whom Mr. Epstein told about it.

He paid a Harvard scientist a bucket load of money to sequence his genome and signed up to have his head (and his penis) cryogenically frozen for future use. (I have to say the vision of a man’s thawed penis does not inspire me to have sex, let alone to have children.)

From eugenics it is but a short hop over to transhumanism, which at its center is a belief that we humans can be improved through gene editing, AI enhancement and the replacement of body parts through superior mechanics.

In 2011, a charity established by Mr. Epstein gave $20,000 to the World Transhumanist Association, which now operates under the name Humanity Plus. The group’s website says that its goal is “to deeply influence a new generation of thinkers who dare to envision humanity’s next steps.”

Epstein was a cowardly, transactional man who used girls and women as currency

Jeffrey Epstein was a walking definition of misogyny, who used women for his sexual satisfaction and for attracting powerful men to engage with him. Not content with abusing even young girls himself, he also used the girls and women around him as tokens to bestow on his many influential acquaintances and to lure others into sharing their power with him. It is beyond my remit to speculate on Epstein’s psycho-sexual state and certainly buying women’s bodies for sex is not an unusual activity for men to engage in. His fixation with himself meant that he couldn’t see the humanity in others and this was a factor in his decision to kill himself, rather than be brought to any sort of account. He knew he couldn’t trade himself out of a network loss this time.
