Does MfM operate elsewhere? You don’t have to tell me where, if they do, but I’m just wondering if breastfeeding mothers still have a place to go that’s not captured like LLL.
Most LLL Leaders are not gender bots and know that their mission is to support, encourage and give information to mothers who want to breastfeed their babies. Every GC Leader I know around the globe signs their yearly Statement of Commitment knowing they do not support the LLLI Inclusivity Policy. In the end, this policy will be an epic failure as Leaders are only expected to support "everyone" through the normal course of breastfeeding. There is no normal course of breastfeeding for natal males or for natal females who have undergone bilateral elective mastectomies. But of course, it's "transphobic" or "bigotry" to point this out so we have to pretend it isn't true.
Interested in how you read the Inclusivity Statement and interpret it as meaning Leaders are obliged to support people who don't breastfeed?
"We at La Leche League International have all nursed our babies. If you want to do the same, whoever you are, whatever your story is, we’re here to help.
LLLI is committed to serving everyone inclusive of race, ethnicity, religion, sex, national origin, ancestry, age, marital status, physical or mental ability, socio-economic status, political views, gender identity, sexual orientation, family structure, or other protected status.
LLLI seeks the equitable accreditation of a diverse body of Leaders."
So, does "everyone" mean we are also obliged to chase down women without children and offer them breastfeeding support? Women whose children are grown and weaned? Post menopausal women? Children? I don't think so - I think it means everyone who needs breastfeeding support.
LLL seems to have turned against Its original mission, it’s mixing causes and censoring, cancelling, anyone who questions...I find this all heartbreaking. Thank you so much for your work, Lucy!
Brilliant article please keep up the work in safe guarding women's space especially in breastfeeding group's.
